Book Review of ‘1000 Questions For Couples’
Isn’t it curious that it is easier to get married than it is to get divorced, despite the fact it is a huge commitment and one that we hope will last till death do us part!
Is this why so many marriages end in divorce? That people rush into it without fully considering what it is they are doing and how and if they are suited for such a long commitment. There are many questions couples should ask before getting married as undoubtedly things can change after marriage. Men and Women need to know if they can agree on the big issues and compromise on the smaller ones.
Are you in agreement as to how to spend your money?
Should you have a joint bank account or separate ones?
These are just two questions of hundreds you and your partner should be asking each other before you walk down the aisle and tie the knot! You may find a question you ask raises a red flag. What if your partner doesn’t want children for example and you do? Can you live together with this decision and respect it?
Asking questions before you get married will enable you to thrash out the problems that may arise later now and reach agreement, compromise or acceptance. These things will increase the likelihood that you will remain together and make a success of your marriage as there will be few surprises.
The great thing about a “question book” is that it makes it easier to ask those difficult questions and encourages an environment to address them. It takes the pressure off as you merely follow the process as oppose to making it seem like certain questions are of particular prevalence. You can go through the book in a matter of fact non confrontational way.
But is Michael Webb’s “1000 Questions For Couples” the right book for this?
Michael Webb has put together a very comprehensive collection of questions, covering every single topic you’d ever want to know about before you get married.
It includes tough subjects like money, children & child rearing, career, past and present relationships, religion, morals, convictions & beliefs, personality, and even sex.
There are also many “lighter” yet just as important topics, including the car and driving, vacations, food and well being, pets, and your favorite things.
One of the features is having 3 - 5 of the questions delivered to your email each day, making everything automatic. You can just just go about your day and get new questions to ask your loved one, without having to really think about it.
This book comes highly recommended NOT just couples who are thinking of getting married but also couples who just want to feel closer together, or people dating, who just want more things to talk about.
