Is your copywriting lingo turning off prospects?

In Uncategorized on 07/04/2009 at 8:17 pm

I’ve been looking at a few copywriting websites lately and …

I can’t understand a word on some of them, as they are full of marketing lingo.

Does the average copywriter realise that unless the client is a marketing specialist (like themselves) they also won’t understand what the cw is talking about and hence won’t stick around to finish reading the ad?

I’m no bimbo. I’ve run businesses for myself and others since I was 19 and I learned the lingo for each of them.

But, when selling to ‘every business’ using your unique niche lingo isn’t helpful..or is it?

Surely laymans terms are better? Afterall your client is a marketing layman otherwise they wouldn’t be hiring you, am I right..or wrong?

Could this be where some confused phd, master degree cw specialists are going wrong? Is their copy too technical..too well written? Written only to be understood by fellow academics?

Beautiful writing is…..well beautiful

But let’s face it, the average Jo has never seen the Mona Lisa, so maybe you’d be better off showing them a picture of Homer?
